Some journeys are about reaching a destination. Others quietly change the course of your life.

This trip from Chandigarh to Assam is one of those journeys for me.

Three years ago, I travelled this same route alone. I wasn’t chasing mountains, famous cafรฉs, or hidden waterfalls. I was travelling thousands of kilometres to meet the family of the woman I loved. I had no idea what awaited me at the end of that journey. Like anyone in that situation, I carried a mix of excitement, hope, and nervousness. My future felt like it depended on a single conversation.

Today, things are very different.

This time, I’m making the same journey with my wife sitting beside me.

The Journey Begins

Our day started before sunrise in Chandigarh. With our bags packed, we boarded a NueGo electric bus bound for Delhi, the first leg of our journey to Assam.

The quiet roads, the early morning air, and the long highway ahead gave me plenty of time to think. It’s funny how certain roads can bring back memories you didn’t even realize you still carried.

As we crossed the highways of North India, I couldn’t help but think about that first trip. Back then, every kilometre felt uncertain. Today, the same road feels familiar.

Sometimes, the destination stays the same, but life changes everything in between.

A Quick Stop Before the Flight

Like many NueGo buses, we made a charging stop at The Great Khali Dhaba near Karnal. It was a short break, but it offered a chance to stretch our legs before continuing towards Delhi.

By the time we reached Maharana Pratap ISBT, Kashmere Gate, the city was already buzzing with its usual energy. From there, we headed to Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1, ready for the next part of the journey.

Flying Towards Assam

Boarding the flight always feels exciting, but this one felt different.

It wasn’t just another domestic flight across India.

It was taking me back to a place that has become deeply personal.

Most people know Assam for its endless tea gardens, the mighty Brahmaputra River, and Kaziranga National Park. While those places are beautiful, my connection with Assam has never been about sightseeing.

For me, Assam means family.

It means conversations over cups of tea, home-cooked meals, familiar roads, and people who welcomed me into their lives.

Landing in Jorhat

As our flight landed at Jorhat Airport, the landscape outside instantly felt familiar.

The greenery, the slower pace of life, and the calm atmosphere are things I’ve grown to appreciate every time I visit. There’s something peaceful about Upper Assam that is difficult to explain until you experience it yourself.

The drive from the airport didn’t feel like arriving somewhere new.

It felt like returning.

More Than a Travel Vlog

When we started Yeh Safar Hamara Hai, our goal was never just to show beautiful places.

We wanted to tell real stories.

This series isn’t about checking famous tourist attractions off a list. Instead, we want to experience Assam through the people who call it home.

Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing everyday life with my wife’s family, exploring local food, traditions, hidden places, conversations, and moments that most visitors never get to see.

If you’ve only seen Assam through postcards and travel guides, I hope this series gives you a different perspective.

They bring us back to the people who now feel like home.
