Some journeys are about reaching a destination. Others are about finally getting home.
For me, travelling from Chandigarh to Assam has always felt like more than simply moving from one city to another.
Our journey started from our home in Chandigarh, and from there we had to make our way to Delhi before catching our flight to Jorhat. It meant a bus journey, Delhi traffic, an airport, a flight and finally that familiar feeling of landing in Assam.
This isn’t a travel guide in the traditional sense.
I didn’t make this journey with the intention of documenting every important place, calculating every rupee or giving you a perfect itinerary. This is simply my experience of travelling from Chandigarh to Assam — the things I noticed, the little moments along the way and what it felt like to finally reach home.
But if you’re planning a similar journey, I’ve also added the practical details at the end of this post.
Starting From Home in Chandigarh
Every long journey starts somewhere.
For us, it started at home.
There is something slightly strange about leaving your house with luggage when you know you’re going to be travelling for a long time. You start checking everything twice — tickets, bags, phones, chargers and all those little things you normally don’t even think about.
Our first major leg was from Chandigarh to Delhi by bus.
Instead of going to Delhi by train or taking a flight from Chandigarh, we chose the bus because it made sense for the route we were taking.
We boarded our NueGo bus from Tribune Chowk in Chandigarh.
Tribune Chowk is one of the listed boarding points for NueGo’s Chandigarh–Delhi service, along with locations such as Sector 43 and Zirakpur.
And that’s where the actual journey began.
Chandigarh to Delhi by NueGo
The Chandigarh–Delhi road journey is fairly straightforward, but when you’re doing it as the first part of a much longer trip, it feels different.
You’re not really travelling to Delhi.
You’re travelling through Delhi.
Delhi was only our connecting point before the flight to Jorhat.
Current bus listings put the Chandigarh–Delhi road journey at roughly 4½–5¼ hours, depending on the service and traffic. NueGo currently operates multiple services on the route.
For our journey, the important thing was simply getting from Chandigarh to Delhi comfortably enough to continue the second half of the trip.
The bus dropped us around Kashmiri Gate, and from there the journey changed completely.
The relaxed road-trip feeling was over.
Now we had to navigate Delhi and make our way towards the airport.
From Kashmiri Gate to Delhi Airport
This was one of those parts of the journey that doesn’t necessarily look exciting on paper.
But when you’re carrying luggage and have a flight to catch, suddenly every minute matters.
Kashmiri Gate is well connected to the rest of Delhi, so from here you have several options depending on your flight timing and how much luggage you’re carrying.
For us, the next destination was the airport.
And once we reached the airport, the whole atmosphere changed again.
The bus journey had been about watching the road pass by.
The airport was about waiting.
Delhi Airport: The Waiting Part of the Journey
One thing I’ve realised about long-distance travel is that the actual travelling isn’t always the longest part mentally.
Sometimes it’s the waiting.
You reach the airport, check your bags, go through security and then suddenly you’re sitting there with time to kill before boarding.
We explored some of the airport shops, walked around and just waited for our flight.
This is also one of the reasons I wanted to include these seemingly ordinary moments in the vlog.
Because this is what travelling actually looks like.
Not every moment is a beautiful mountain view or a cinematic train window.
Sometimes it’s luggage, airport food, walking around and waiting for your boarding announcement.
And honestly, I think those moments make a travel story feel much more real.
Delhi to Jorhat: The Flight to Assam
Finally, it was time for the flight.
Our destination was Jorhat, Assam.
Delhi–Jorhat is now considerably easier to travel than it used to be. IndiGo introduced a direct Delhi–Jorhat service in September 2025, initially operating four times a week.
IndiGo currently lists both direct and connecting options between Delhi and Jorhat, with its current information putting a non-stop journey at around 3 hours 55 minutes.
For someone travelling from North India to Upper Assam, this direct connection can make a huge difference.
Instead of breaking the journey at another city, you can simply board the flight in Delhi and wake up a few hours later in Assam.
And that feeling when the plane finally starts descending towards Jorhat is difficult to explain if you haven’t experienced it.
Because at this point, the journey is almost over.
Landing in Jorhat
And then…
Assam.
After starting the day in Chandigarh, travelling by road to Delhi, making our way to the airport and flying across the country, we finally landed at Jorhat Airport.
Jorhat Airport is also known as Rowriah Airport, with the airport located roughly 7 km from Jorhat city. It is the airport code JRH and serves as an important gateway to Upper Assam.
The airport itself is much smaller and quieter than what you experience in Delhi.
And that change in atmosphere is something I really noticed.
The journey had taken us from the busy roads of Chandigarh to the huge Delhi airport and finally to this much more familiar part of Assam.
But landing at Jorhat wasn’t actually the end.
We still had to travel onwards.
Finally Reaching Home
This was my favourite part of the whole journey.
Not the flight.
Not the bus.
Not the airport.
Home.
After all those kilometres, all the waiting and changing from one mode of transport to another, we finally reached my hometown and my home.
And suddenly the entire journey made sense.
That’s why I don’t really see this as a Chandigarh-to-Assam travel video.
It’s a journey back home.
There is a difference.
When you’re travelling somewhere for a holiday, you are excited because you’re going to experience something new.
When you’re going home, the excitement comes from seeing things that are already familiar.
The people.
The roads.
The food.
The house.
The feeling.
And that’s exactly what I wanted this video to capture.

The advantage of doing it this way is that you’re combining road and air travel instead of trying to make the entire journey by road.
What to Know Before Travelling From Chandigarh to Jorhat
1. Chandigarh → Delhi
There are numerous buses operating between Chandigarh and Delhi, including NueGo. Tribune Chowk is among the listed NueGo boarding points in Chandigarh, while Kashmiri Gate is one of its Delhi drop points.
The actual journey time will depend heavily on traffic, so don’t plan your flight connection too tightly.
This is particularly important if you’re travelling during a busy period.
2. Leave Enough Time for Delhi
This is probably the biggest practical lesson from our journey.
You’re connecting a bus journey with a flight.
That means you’re depending on:
Chandigarh traffic + highway traffic + Delhi traffic + airport security + boarding time.
Even if the bus normally takes around five hours, you shouldn’t build your entire plan around the minimum travel time.
Give yourself a comfortable buffer.
3. Delhi → Jorhat
A direct Delhi–Jorhat flight makes the journey considerably simpler.
IndiGo currently lists direct as well as connecting Delhi–Jorhat options.
However, flight schedules and operating days can change, so always check the airline’s current schedule for your travel date rather than relying on information from an old vlog or blog.
4. Jorhat Airport → Jorhat
Jorhat Airport (JRH) is approximately 7 km from Jorhat city, and taxis/car-rental options are available for onward travel.
The airport is also useful if your final destination isn’t Jorhat itself.
Jorhat is an important gateway to Upper Assam, including places such as Majuli and the surrounding tea-growing region.
Is Chandigarh to Assam Worth Doing This Way?
For us, yes.
But whether it’s the best option for you depends on your dates, budget and where exactly in Assam you’re going.
If you’re going towards Jorhat or Upper Assam, flying into Jorhat can make a lot of sense.
If you’re heading towards Guwahati or Lower Assam, another airport or route may make more sense.
And that’s one thing I always recommend:
Don’t copy someone else’s exact itinerary just because it worked for them.
Look at where you’re actually going.
Then choose the combination of train, bus and flight that makes the journey easiest for you.
The Part You Don’t See on Google Maps
A map can tell you the distance between Chandigarh and Jorhat.
A flight app can tell you how long the flight takes.
A bus booking website can tell you the schedule.
But none of those things can tell you what the journey feels like.
Leaving your home.
Sitting on a bus.
Watching Delhi appear.
Dragging your luggage through the airport.
Waiting at the gate.
Looking out of the airplane window.
Seeing Assam again.
And finally walking into your home.
That’s the part I wanted to remember.
And that’s what this vlog is.
Not a guide.
Not an itinerary.
Just my journey home. ❤️
