Assam is a place I experience a little differently.

I am from Punjab, while my wife is from Assam. So whenever we come here, it isn’t quite the same as visiting Assam as a tourist. There are no fixed sightseeing plans, no checklist of tourist attractions and no rush to cover as many places as possible.

Sometimes, the best way to experience a place is simply to spend a normal day there.

This time, that’s exactly what we decided to do.

A simple day at my Assamese wife’s home — Punjab × Assam.

Starting the Morning in Assam

The morning starts slowly.

One of the first things I talk about in the video is something that you don’t normally associate with travel videos — the mosquito net.

But that’s exactly the point of this vlog.

These are the little everyday things that make staying somewhere different interesting. When you’re travelling as a tourist, you tend to notice monuments, landscapes and famous food.

When you’re staying at someone’s home, you notice completely different things.

The way people sleep.

The way the morning begins.

What they drink.

How the house is arranged.

And the small routines that you would otherwise never see.

Lal Chai — The Assam Morning Ritual

Then comes Lal Chai, or Assamese red tea.

For me, having tea in Assam has a slightly different feeling because tea is so deeply connected with the identity of the state.

Lal Chai is simple — a clear, reddish tea without milk — but sitting down with a cup in the morning makes for one of those quiet moments that don’t necessarily look spectacular on camera but stay with you.

And that’s what this video is really about.

Not spectacular moments. Just real ones.

A Look Inside My Assamese Home

After our morning tea, I take you around the house.

It’s a simple home tour, but again, the interesting part for me is seeing the differences between a home in Assam and what I’m accustomed to back in Punjab.

The architecture, the surroundings, the way the house interacts with the greenery outside — all of these things give the place its own character.

And because this is my wife’s home, there’s also a personal connection to everything we’re showing.

This isn’t a house we discovered while travelling.

This is where my wife’s story began.

From the City Home to the Village Home

Later in the day, we head towards the village home.

This is where the atmosphere changes.

The pace becomes slower, the surroundings become greener and you start getting a very different glimpse of everyday life in Assam.

Village life is one of the things I enjoy most about travelling in the Northeast because you get to see a side of India that can easily be missed when you only visit popular tourist destinations.

Instead of looking for a famous viewpoint or attraction, sometimes simply walking around a village and seeing how people live can tell you much more about a place.

An Evening With Family

As the day comes towards an end, we spend some time with relatives.

There isn’t anything particularly grand planned.

Just conversations, small moments and the kind of time you get when you’re visiting family.

Later, we head out for some sweet shopping.

It’s one of those ordinary evening activities that might not make it onto a conventional travel itinerary — but these are exactly the moments that make a family trip feel like you’re actually living in a place rather than simply visiting it.

Experiencing Assam Through Family

One of the things I’ve realised through travelling to Assam is that there are two very different ways to experience a place.

You can experience it as a tourist.

Or you can experience it through people.

For me, being married to someone from Assam means I get a small window into the second kind of experience.

I get to see Assam through my wife’s family, their homes, their routines, their food and their everyday life.

And that’s what Punjab × Assam means to us.

It’s not just about two different states.

It’s about two families, two cultures and two backgrounds becoming part of the same journey.

A Different Kind of Assam Travel Vlog

This isn’t a guide to the best places to visit in Assam.

There are no big tourist attractions in this video.

Instead, it’s a glimpse into everyday Assamese family life — waking up at home, having Lal Chai, exploring the house, visiting the village home, meeting relatives and ending the evening with something sweet.

Sometimes, a normal day can tell you more about a place than a packed itinerary ever could.

So if you’re curious about Assamese culture, village life in Assam, Assamese homes, family life in Assam, or simply want to spend a slow day with us, this is our little window into Assam.

From Punjab to Assam — one journey, one family and one ordinary day at a time.
