Sometimes the hardest part of a trip isn’t the drive, the planning, or even the weather.

It’s simply deciding to leave.

Our anniversary trip to Jibhi almost never happened.

A day before departure, our bags were still unpacked, the weather forecast was showing rain for almost the entire week, and neither of us was particularly excited about travelling anymore. After weeks of work and daily routines, we had somehow reached the point where staying home sounded easier than going on a trip we had been planning for months.

Yet, a few hours later, we found ourselves loading our bags into the car and starting our road trip from Chandigarh to Jibhi.

This is the story of how our Jibhi adventure began.

The Weather Was Not On Our Side

Like most travellers these days, we made the mistake of checking the weather forecast repeatedly.

Every time we refreshed the app, it showed more rain.

Not scattered showers.

Not a chance of rain.

Rain almost every day.

Naturally, the conversation shifted from excitement to doubt.

Was it even worth going?

Would we spend the entire trip inside our room?

Would the mountain views be hidden behind clouds?

At one point, cancelling the trip genuinely felt like the logical decision.

The Last-Minute Packing Chaos

Packing should have been done the night before.

It wasn’t.

The morning of our trip looked exactly like what you’d expect from two people who kept saying “We’ll do it later.”

Clothes were everywhere.

Bags were half-filled.

Travel essentials were still sitting on shelves.

As departure time got closer, we realised that overthinking wasn’t helping anyone. The only way to know whether the trip would be worth it was to actually start it.

Why We Chose Jibhi

For our anniversary, we weren’t looking for a crowded tourist destination.

We wanted somewhere quieter.

A place where we could slow down for a few days, enjoy nature, and take a break from our normal routine.

That’s exactly why Jibhi stood out.

Located in Himachal Pradesh’s beautiful Tirthan Valley region, Jibhi has become one of the most popular offbeat destinations in North India. Known for its riverside cottages, pine forests, waterfalls, wooden architecture, and peaceful atmosphere, it offers a completely different experience compared to busier hill stations.

Even though we had seen hundreds of photos online, we wanted to experience it for ourselves.

Chandigarh to Jibhi Road Trip

We started our journey from Chandigarh early in the day.

The drive from Chandigarh to Jibhi is approximately 280–300 kilometres depending on your route and usually takes between 7 and 9 hours.

The most common route is:

Chandigarh → Bilaspur → Mandi → Aut → Banjar → Jibhi

One thing worth noting is that road conditions can change throughout the year due to weather and construction work.

During our trip, there were reports of road work and temporary traffic restrictions on parts of the route near Aut and Banjar. If you’re planning a trip, it’s always a good idea to check the latest road updates before leaving.

Despite the concerns, the drive itself was beautiful. As city traffic disappeared behind us, the landscape gradually started changing, reminding us exactly why we had decided to leave home in the first place.

Sometimes You Just Need To Go

One thing travel keeps teaching us is that the anticipation is often worse than the journey.

The doubts.

The overthinking.

The endless “what ifs.”

Most of them disappear once you’re actually on the road.

As the kilometres passed and Chandigarh slowly faded into the distance, we realised this trip was never really about perfect weather.

It wasn’t about checking attractions off a list.

It was simply about taking a break, spending time together, and getting away from routine for a while.

Whether Jibhi turned out to be everything we hoped for or not, we were already glad we made the decision to go.

And honestly, that’s when the trip really started.
