🎆 When Diwali Feels Different
Diwali has always meant being around family. It encompasses the sounds of laughter and the smell of sweets. There’s also that familiar chaos that makes it feel like home.
But this year was different. For the first time, both of us couldn’t make it home for the festival. We are a Punjab × Assam couple working in corporate jobs.
Instead of the usual buzz, our apartment felt quiet.
The streets outside were calm, almost sleepy. It was one of those moments. You realise how fast adulthood sneaks up on you. Deadlines replace holidays. Office lights replace diyas.
🛍️ Prepping for a “Small Diwali”
A few days earlier, we had shared our Diwali Shopping Vlog. It showed the little things we picked up — diyas, lights, sweets, and a few decorations. These items make our space feel like home.
We promised each other that no matter where we are, the feeling of Diwali will stay with us.
We set up our tiny corner. We lit diyas and made tea. We laughed about how we were celebrating Diwali in our own way this time.
⚡ A Silent Start, Then the City Woke Up
As the evening began, there wasn’t much happening around.
No loud crackers, no children running around, just the sound of distant fireworks somewhere far away.
Then suddenly — power went out!
For a few seconds, the darkness felt oddly peaceful. It was as if the city had been waiting for that cue. The lights came back on. The sky filled with colors.
The quiet Diwali turned into a burst of joy.
We smiled, recorded those moments, and added a small note in our vlog:
“Diwali celebration did pick up after some time.”
🌍 The Morning After — A Small Reminder
The next morning told a different story.
The streets that sparkled last night were now covered with the remains of fireworks. Ashes and wrappers littered the ground. The air carried the smell of smoke.
That’s when it hit us: celebrations can be beautiful and responsible.
We added a small message at the end of our video. It was our two cents about keeping the festival joyful. We emphasized not forgetting the environment.
💬 Reflections
This Diwali might not have been grand, but it was ours.
Away from family, away from the usual chaos — yet full of warmth, gratitude, and love.
Sometimes, quiet festivals teach you more than noisy ones ever can.

✨ Final Thoughts
Festivals aren’t always about where you are — they’re about who you’re with and what you make of the moment.
Celebrate whether you’re home or hundreds of miles away. Always practice kindness and love. Show a little bit of care for the world around you.
